LIONS CLUB COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL ACTIVITY
BANNER PATCH AWARD

Your Lions Club has the opportunity to be the winner!!!

CULTURE is defined as "behavior patterns, arts,
beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work,
and thought characteristic of a community".

PERHAPS YOUR CLUB already has such a program in place to qualify the club for this
PRESTIGIOUS AWARD!

The Culture and Community Activities Program Committee in District 2-S3 will recognize a club that sponsored an outstanding cultural and community activity in 2008-2009 by awarding that club with the Lions Club Cultural and Community Activities Banner Patch Award.  This patch will be presented by Governor Charles Handrick at the first cabinet meeting in July.

The Lions Culture Program was officially approved by Lions International in October 2000 to encourage clubs to celebrate culture through art festivals, talent shows, musical concerts, sponsored races, sports events, or restoration of historic sites.  Its mission is to cultivate the human qualities and values that stimulate individual creativity, enliven the community, and animate the human spirit.  Cultural and community activities meet the Third Objective of Lionism:  To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

What are cultural and community activities?   They all have one thing in common:  They show the Lions’ active involvement in the life of the community.  The focus should be on meeting the needs of the handicapped, elderly and youth.  Cultural and community activities fall into many categories: art, building community pride, civic outreach, clothing and crafts, dance, food, language/public speaking, literature, music, etc.  Activities may include everything from cleanup campaigns to sponsoring sporting events, restoring local playgrounds, planting trees or organizing festivals.  Your club may choose to support civic and cultural events that already exist or develop new ones.  For more information on cultural and community activities, access the Lions web site at www.lionsclubs.org and go to the Cultural and Community section that is located under “Activities and Programs”.

How can your club submit an activity?  Complete the following steps:

  1. Select for the award one community project your club implemented this year.
(Do not submit more than one activity.)
  2. Complete the enclosed application.
  3. Send your completed application to:
